About

Raquel Saavedra is an artist and illustrator with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) in Leioa, Basque Country, Spain.

The search for realism amidst the unpredictability of watercolor can be found in her artwork; the result, although calculated, is always a burst of surprise.

Her current work explores emotions in the female face, sensitively depicting beauty as an encounter between the spiritual and the tangible. For Saavedra, the face is a container of emotions, a gaze as both a question and an answer.

Elements of nature, such as minerals or flowers, inform another of her projects. She pays homage to these elements, intentionally appreciating them and thanking them for their integral part in constructing the nature without which we would not exist.

Her preferred media are watercolor and pencil, at times incorporating digital techniques and traditional media such as gouche, acrylics and oil.

In addition to offering original and reproduced works (prints) for sale, she paints commissioned portraits.
